We want CLUBLAN!

10-May-11 3:54 PM

Hi everyone, As you probably know, gaming in the maltese has been on a steady decline (regarding lans) and the community is pretty much limited to call of duty. Every year there are fewer lans with even fewer gamers participating. I wish I could change all that, but it is impossible without the communities support.

I've created this thread to try to reunite the ex-clubgaming members so that they could host an epic lan this summer as they did in 2007, 2008,& 2009. The thing I loved most about clublan was that the admins were innovative and were open to change.

If I could gather some support and if this thread could get some attention i'm sure we'll get another EPIC lan from ClubGaming! :)

Unfortunately right now most of us are too busy with our studies atm to even dream of organising a LAN.

but you CAN make a change.

you know our story; 5 6th form students deciding to do a lan. we made it happen. we were your age Chris. In my experience from those 3 lans the trick is not to listen to the masses; but to make it fun for the minorities as well. Go with ur gut. and most important TAKE THE INITIATIVE.

hmm... I dono about that, definately not for now though.. After the exams we'll see, the problem is that we (me and my friends) don't have a clue about hosting lans, we'll definately need help. Don't know hehe..

the main problem is sponsors and location usually

umbad the usual:

tables, chairs, cables (could b from sponsors), power

but you can ask around for d best prices. it takes time man, but at least for me it was definitely a great experience being part of the organisation of d lan party.

xammies first, though

i think the biggest thing is actually technical knowhow.

ClubLAN07 was easily the best LAN I've ever attended, even with all the problems we had (electricity, heat etc), the original ideas spewing out left right and centre, the tenacity of the executives to contact sponsors - it was amazing really.

It would be so amazing for cG to come back, unfortunately, its as inferno says, but dunno, summer is not usually that busy is it? :p

as much as id love to organize another lan, i feel that the community is lacking. its become more of a logistical nightmare too, with the ever increasing demands of the gamers, and the increasing cost of renting equipment and the lot.

also, the way i see it, ever since cash prizes were introduced the LAN scene changed for the worse... clublan07 was Lm8.50/€20 for the 4 days the prizes were relatively simple, but we had a waiting list of about 25 gamers (of the 140 that attended) and the lan turned out to be quite an experience. for some reason we could never achieve the same outcome, clublan 08 had 105 attendees (we could cater for 180 easily), and clublan 09 70 (fully booked).

Also another problem is the games, more and more games require an internet connection... as we know well enough, playing starcraft II/LOL/HON etc at a lan is just about impossible, unless an extremely solid internet connection is available... but no ISP is willing to provide such connections making online tournaments at lan parties impossible.

hopefully this makes some sense... im a bit tired xD, that said, if there is a reasonable amount of interest, we'll consider bringing the team together to organize a lan, but only time will tell whether this actually happens or not.
