As the title says, I have ordered, a laptop  Asus G750 i7, 8GB ram and GT765M 2GB, it is on the way, hopefully will use it for both gaming and work.  It comes with windows 8, which I hate and was already looking around for windows 7 but looks like the drivers are quite scarse, anyone has/had this laptop and had problem with running Windows 7 Ultimate on it?

Thanks for the heads up :D

personally i would leave win8 since I learnt from a Lanthrax user (Play) that win8 is good for gaming too (sometimes better). I guess by time you will get used to the interface, i would give it a chance

well  I spent 6 months using Windows 8 on desktop pc, installed on SSD... and getting stuck in black screen or booting to fast to enter "select boot" mode.... I know windows 8 is good for games, but are there any real advantages over 7?

Did the desktop PC have available windows8/8.1 drivers available from the manufacturer's website?

Well windows 8/8.1 has a smaller footprint on the hard drive than windows 7.

More secure. (well honestly.. never used an antivirus on my system since 2011)

Can better manage resources than windows 7.

Handles newer hardware better. Your new haswell will benefit from this.

Benefit from snap-in apps (I like the way skype is snapped to the side while leaving me with still a large portion of workspace available, don't have to switch programs - same goes bdf documents, assignmenting never was better.)

Windows Store Apps.

Sync settings agross multiple devices (I got a pc, tablet and laptop set exactly the same, thanks to this feature)

.. It all really is down to the decision of the user.. but you have new hardware, with a freshly installed windows 8, just leave it as it is. I never bought an Asus Laptop, be wary of the usual bloatware

The only main difference is the start menu, instead of a small one, it expands to full screen. But makes searching easier, since you can just start typing in.

Regarding your error.. that's new, never heard that 'booting too fast' is considered an error nowadays.

Like Play* I would leave it on Windows 8, especially due to the fact that in a month's time an update should be available in which most of the issues raised by the community are adressed

asaik, when it comes to gaming they are on par; some games perform better on win7 while others perform better on win8. i'm not sure about the latest win8 update regarding performance. personally, i don't like the interface of win8 but if it comes with it i would first try it out and see how it goes.

Ok going to do as most of you suggested and leave it on Win 8.... for the beggining and see how it does, also I forgot to mention something! I got a 256gb SSD to replace in the laptop, also now  noticed there are 2 HDD bays :D  should I just pop them in both, or leave the 750gb ssd HD spare somewhere nad just use the 256gb what do u suggest?

[The "just 256gb" size doesnt affect me, most of my big files are shared on GoogleDrive between my devices, and on the laptop I can DL only what is needed, so size is not hta much of an issue, I was more concerrned for shakes and bumps cos of the standard hdd it will come with and because of having 2 hdds will drain more battery life (although adding the sdd wont make much of a difference, more removing the standard HDD will)

(on my desktop i7 its the 3rd gen while the asus has the 4th so generally as you said better to stick with Win8 fsince newer hardware)

I have 256GB (Vector 128GB at RAID 0) + 320GB (Velociraptor 160GB at RAID 0) on my PC
128GB (Vertex 4) + 500GB (WD Black) on my Laptop

64GB (mSATA Plextor) + 2TB (2.5" Samsung) on my HTPC

All are with Windows 8.1, and don't have any storage problems.

Install the SSD as primary and the 750GB in the second bay (check if you need an additional bracket for the HD, my laptop came only with one, had to buy another one). Move you downloads, documents, movies, music libraries onto the HD. You have enough space to install plenty of programs and games onto the SSD, though I would set program cache, (for example Adobe Suite) to be on the HD.

Change even cloud storage paths, like dropbox, google drive and skydrive to save onto the HD.

Yep that`s how I work as well. DL paths, music. movies, etc, even iso`s of games to be installed via Daemon Tools etc go on the Sata 3 normal HDD`s and main programs and ofc windows on the SSD... I heard that repeatedly writing onto an SSD will decrease its performance by time... I am sure it is 100% true...everything degrades by time... but how severe is it?  (I mean is a 256gb SSD lasts 4 - 5 years for me before dying or being slow that you notice the difference i`m happy:D)

On windows 8 mounting iso is built in too :D

Every SSD manufacturer has it's own specifications, the Vector 150 allow 50GB/day writes for 5 years.. just head to the manufacturer's website

The only problem with old SSDs was that once you reached for example 50% storage capacity, its performance would immediately have an impact. that's why TRIM enabled drives and letting the computer idling for a while is a 'must'
